What’s an “apologist” you ask? Is it someone who says I’m sorry, so very very sorry! all the time? I’ve met people like that. I’m sorry I forgot your birthday. I’m sorry I ran into your car, I’m sorry I just can’t accept that there is a single designer of a universe that looks and behaves logically.
An apologist doesn’t apologize for Jesus. The dictionary definition is pretty sufficient. An apologist is a person who offers an argument in defense of something controversial. So a Christian apologist gives a reason for his or her faith in Christ. It isn’t always easy. If you’ve never seen this challenge on a popular TV show you might get it. I used this example in a men’s breakfast presentation and everyone agree we might need some more preparation before West Wing a US President comes after us with guns blazing.

Here’s their list of apologists in case you ever feel like a President or anyone else is smarter than a smart Christian like you. Not too many mentors are smarter than the Creator of the Universe so your Bible is your best defense against a big word and small idea type, perhaps the most annoying of which to me presently is Neil deGrasse Tyson. He says, for example that his profession and philosophy requires evidence based thinking and that religion requires faith based thinking.
It’s hard to argue that faith is certainly called for by Christ. But, he also called for us to Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
To love God with our minds and to be able to give reason for our faith, say it again, REASON for our faith.
